Removals Status Update — Frequently Asked Questions
1. How can I change how often I receive these updates?
Log in to your account, use the left side menu to navigate to your Account details page, and update your Notification Preferences.
2. How can I verify that the profiles you say have been removed have actually been removed?
In most cases, you can click the links labeled "Removed" under the "Link to Profile" column in your Dashboard, and you will be directed to a page that says something like "Profile Not Found", "404" or "No Results". If you have input alternate names (e.g. a maiden name), you can use the Autogenerated Profile Links under the "show more" toggle in the "More Info" column of your Dashboard. You can also search for yourself at each data broker manually.
In the rare case you find yourself still exposed at a data broker after being marked as "Removed", please send us an email with the details at support@optery.com and we'll investigate right away.
Stay tuned for your Removals Report — it's the inverse of the Exposure Report you received when you first signed up, and displays screenshots of all the places you've been removed. We typically send this report after your subscription has been active for at least 3 months.
3. How long will it take for all my profiles to be removed?
Some data brokers process opt-out removals within 24 hours, but others can take several weeks to comply. The majority of profiles are removed within 6–8 weeks. We proactively monitor and remove new profiles that pop up or re-populate on an ongoing basis.
Note that opt-out laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act permit data brokers to stop honoring an opt-out request after 1 year, and data brokers refresh their databases regularly — so keeping your name and personal information off these sites is a continual, ongoing effort.
