How Does the Optery Limited Power of Attorney (LPOA) for Authorized Agent work?

The Optery Limited Power of Attorney is an optional feature available to paying customers. More information is provided below about how it works:

Do I need to sign a Limited Power of Attorney (LPOA)?

No. Signing the LPOA is completely optional, but we highly recommend it.

Many data brokers reject removal requests from third-party services unless we can prove you have designated us as your Authorized Agent through a signed document.

By signing the LPOA, you grant Optery the legal standing to exercise data rights on your behalf. Having a signed LPOA significantly increases the number of successful removals we can achieve. Notably, we regularly add data brokers to our list who require a Limited Power of Attorney to fulfill removal requests.

What information is provided to data brokers in a removal request?

To process a removal, data brokers require enough information to identify your record in their system. This article explains what information Optery provides to data brokers when exercising your data rights on your behalf.

When we use the LPOA, the following minimum details are included:

  • Full Name
  • Age
  • Current City and State of Residence

If you are uncomfortable sharing these details with brokers via the LPOA, you should not sign the LPOA.

Why is it a "Limited" POA?

The "Limited" scope means Optery only has the authority to manage data rights and opt-out requests. We cannot act on your behalf for any other legal or financial matters.

What else should I know?

Revocation: You can revoke the LPOA at any time by clicking “Revoke Limited Power of Attorney” on the Limited Power of Attorney page in your Optery account.

Proprietary Lists: We do not disclose the specific list of brokers requiring an LPOA, as this is part of our proprietary removal logic.

Cost: Customers on paid subscription plans do not pay additional fees associated with signing or using an LPOA.

Next Steps: To execute the LPOA, you can follow our Help Desk article with step-by-step instructions and screenshots: Signing the Limited Power of Attorney to make Optery your Authorized Agent for data broker removals
