Why do I see "sales tax" on my invoice?

Optery subscription plans may include state and local sales taxes, which vary based on your billing address. These taxes are required by law and will be clearly listed on your invoice.

Why am I suddenly seeing a sales tax charge when there wasn't one before?

Optery regularly reviews tax regulations to ensure compliance. If you weren’t previously charged tax, this may be due to updated nexus requirements in your region.

Starting in 2025, we began collecting state and province-mandated taxes and fees. This applies only to new invoices and does not affect past invoices. Sales tax charges will only appear on invoices where tax collection is required based on local regulations.

Why does the tax amount change between invoices?

Sales tax is based typically on your billing address and the specific services in your plan. Changes to tax laws, your address, or your subscription can affect the total amount.

Where can I find tax charges on my invoice?

You can view your invoices by navigating to Account > Plans & Billing > Invoices. If you are charged sales tax, you will see a line item that clearly indicates this as a separate charge to the Optery subscription.

I'm an Optery for Business customer and I am tax exempt. What do I do?

If you’re tax-exempt, feel free to email taxexemptions@optery.com with your certificate.

How do I update my billing address?

Your billing address is set based on your payment method. If you need to update your payment method, you can do so anytime by going to Account > Plans & Billing > Invoices.

If you have questions about the taxes on your invoice, please reach out to support@optery.com for assistance.
